Advice For Direct Sales Representatives- By Cecilia Frederick

I have been in direct sales since January of 2004, and over the years, I have learned many tips and ideas that I would like to share. Direct sale’s is all about relationships. You need to establish relationships with your customers. People in general will buy from someone they know and trust.

I am an Avon representative, but the ideas that I will share, I believe would cross into party plan and multi level marketing companies also. Become a walking, talking user of the products that you sell. When someone asks me about skin care or makeup or fragrance, I can answer their questions because I use the products and believe in them.

Go out of your way to make your customers feel special. This may involve searching high and low to find their favorite product, if it is not in the catalog, or back ordering that product if they may have missed the sale. They will remember this, and become a faithful customer. Giving samples and little gifts is also another great idea and tool to use to gain customer approval and also to gain new customers. Good customers will tell their friends how great their sales representative is and this is the best referral of all—word of mouth.

Never stop searching for new customers. If you are not advertising your business, you don’t have a business. How are people going to find you if you don’t advertise? Take some of the money you make and re-invest it back into your business with advertising. In a year (or even a few months) this will start to pay off. You need to have a marketing plan and advertise; flyers work well, online ads work, hand out business cards everywhere you go, advertise your website, hand out books to everyone you meet, have a yearly Open House at your home. I have found that if you advertise both online and offline you will have better results.

The power of 3 really does work. Tell yourself each morning, that I will talk to at least 3 people today about my business. This could just be a matter of handing them a book, or a business card and telling them what you do.

Social media is another avenue that cannot be ignored in this day and age. If you have a Facebook page, put your websites on it. If you don’t have a Facebook page, create one. If your company allows, create a fan page for your business. Start Twittering. You will get followers over time, and friends will tell friends about you, thus Viral Marketing at work.

My philosophy with direct sales and down-lines has always been, work smarter, not harder. In other words, start a down-line and recruit as well as sell. You are opening up a whole new channel for making residual income, that is, income that pays you long after the initial effort was put into the work of recruiting. You will need to be there for your recruits and answer their questions, and the best thing to do is to teach them to do what you do. This is called duplication. Then they can teach their own teams how to create a successful direct sales business.

Direct Sales In This Economy?

Today’s economy as we all know is tough, maybe that is even an understatement. In economic times like these, it especially makes sense to think about how the Direct Sales industry would be able to help you succeed financially.

The Direct Sales industry has been around for over 100 years and is still a valid option to earn additional income or to be your primary income source. I will talk about why the industry is booming and why, even in this down economy the Direct Sales industry is a viable option to making money.

Direct Sales is a business built on relationships. When you find a product or service about which you’re passionate, it’s easy to share the good news with friends and family. You also have financial security with Direct Sales.

Job security is a flat out myth these days. Building your own business allows you to control your financial future. Whether you’re using your business to create a savings cushion, to make ends meet or to replace a corporate income, direct selling gives you the ability to take control.

With Direct Sales and Network Marketing you usually have a small initial investment and low risk which can generate high return and high earning potential, with potential being the key word. You have to be willing to put forth the effort. The more efficient the effort, the more money produced.

There are no boundaries to direct selling, no sales territories or restrictions. Network marketing allows independent consultants to set their own goals, dream big and create the life they want with no restrictions.

There are many tax benefits to owning a home business. The allowable deductions can make a real difference in what your family pays in taxes each year.

The freedom and flexibility are often the most appealing aspect of working from home. The freedom to choose when and how much to work is something most employers do not offer.

I believe it is these reasons why the industry as a whole has grown and thrived for over 100 years. The direct selling industry offers the opportunity for part time effort to equate to part time income, or full time effort to give you a full time income. The difference is, that effort will continue to pay you for years to come, that is the beauty of residual income.

Making it work in Direct Sales – Avon

I have been an Avon rep for the last 6 1/2 years.  Has it always been easy?  No way.  Has it been worth it?  Yes.  I will tell you that working direct sales is all about customers and establishing relationships with them.

I think one of the most important, if not the most important thing,  to understand about Direct Sales, is to pick a company that you are passionate about.  If you don’t use or like the products, you’re going to have a hard time selling them.  Really.  People are drawn to you when you tell them the truth about a new product you have tried. “Hey, I love this new moisturizer, it works so well for my skin.”    Customers need that feedback from you- their sales rep.  I know this is why I have been successful with Avon.  I use the products and I talk about them!
